The Public Library aims to be a welcoming venue that offers a friendly and varied service to the community. Located at the southern end of Main Street it is conveniently located within the John Mackintosh Hall, a cultural venue and quiet haven within the busy town area. Once inside the library you can relax in the foyer area making use of the comfortable seating where you can read the local newspapers and browse books. A separate Reference section is available for quiet study, the perfect place for students and those needing a space to work or read. The children’s section offers attractive seating for our younger members where they can enjoy the variety of books available. The library houses over 36,000 books and continues to expand with regular new titles and bestsellers both fiction and nonfiction. You can browse our full collection online here.
The John Mackintosh Hall Library also has a collection dedicated to Gibraltarian authors and local publications. Mainly reference only, there are also loanable copies of many of the Gibraltarian titles. Other services which you can access anywhere, anytime include free audiobooks, eBooks and eMagazines for members, via the BorrowBox app. Members can download the app on a smartphone device or tablet and log in using their membership number and password. Please contact the library if you require help accessing this service.
