Camera traps are useful ecological tools used in wildlife management and monitoring. Camera traps collect vast amounts of imagery data regarding presence and behaviour of multiple species within a site. Camera trap technology is non-invasive and can also capture elusive or nocturnal animals. Reviewing images and footage from camera traps does not require professional skills and the footage can easily be provided to experts for verification. Data from camera traps can be used to monitor animal behaviour, feeding habits, species diversity, species distributions, and relative abundance. Within Gibraltar, there are opportunities to deploy camera traps within the Nature Reserve and study species interactions. Data can be used to inform conservation approaches and Nature Reserve management.
