FAQs

We have answered some frequently asked questions in the drop-down menu below:

Do students from the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland need visas?

Although Gibraltar left the EU with the UK, students from a country that’s inside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland are not required to apply for a visa to study in Gibraltar.

How do you cross the land border with Spain?

The land border with Spain can be crossed on-foot or by road. The border is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is no charge to cross the border.

For further information please refer to the Borders and Coastguard Agency.

Do I have to pay international fees?

At the University of Gibraltar our home and international students benefit from the same academic and student experiences. As such, whether our students are from Gibraltar or anywhere else in the world, we charge the same fee. (Please refer to course pages to learn more about each degrees fees).

Will my degree be recognised internationally/ in the UK?

In 2022, the University of Gibraltar achieved global accreditation from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), the UK’s independent quality body and a global leader in quality assurance for higher education. All UK Universities are required to undergo a review by the QAA.

This accreditation ensures that our degrees hold equal recognition worldwide to those awarded by UK institutions.

Can I work while I'm a student?

If you are from an EU country, there are no restrictions on the amount of hours you can work alongside your studies.

Those studying in Gibraltar on a student visa, you can take on some part-time work. Depending on your visa, you should be able to work up to 20 hours per week during term time and 40 hours per week during vacation time.

Why isn't the University of Gibraltar listed on UCAS?

Anyone who wants to study an undergraduate degree in the UK needs to apply through UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service). As Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory, institutions within Gibraltar are not required to list themselves on UCAS.

As the University of Gibraltar is not listed on UCAS it is able to set its own application timeline, which allows us to turn applications around quickly, and accept applications throughout the summer period.
