The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice is aimed at those wishing to enhance their skills in legal practice.
CILEx level 3 is suitable for those persons who have little or no experience of law and may be working in a legal environment and wish to develop their knowledge and skills.
CILEx is a professional body which represents 20,000 members, from Chartered Legal Executives to Paralegals. Founded in 1892, and incorporated by Royal Charter in 2012, in the past 25 years over 95,000 people have chosen CILEx qualifications to enhance their career prospects in legal practice. The courses offer opportunities to further enhance career and qualification ambitions. The routes are very flexible in terms of timelines in becoming a Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer.
CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice is a two year course aimed at those wishing to enhance their skills in legal practice. Both the first and second year require the completion of five units per year. Upon successful completion of all units students will attain a CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice.
The University of Gibraltar is offering year 1 of the course on a part-time basis. Sessions are scheduled to take place twice a week from 18:30 – 20:30 in our main campus.

Students embarking on a programme of study towards either CILEx Level 3 qualification should ideally have a minimum of five GCSEs at grades C or above (including English Language or Literature) or equivalent qualifications.
The University of Gibraltar is an approved learning provider for the MOD’s Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELCAS). This promotes lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces. The scheme provides financial support for pursuit of higher-level learning. This course is ELCAS approved, should you meet ELCAS eligibility criteria you may apply for subsidy.
The course fee for academic year 2019/2020 is £2,075. This includes all University of Gibraltar application and assessment fees, as well as covering your course materials, supervision and tuition.
Are there any extra costs?
Initial Registration: CILEx one-off initial registration fee of £40 (non-refundable)
Student Member: for those wishing to enter the legal profession; those who have no relevant legal qualification; or those with less than three years’ work experience of a predominantly legal nature. Annual subscription fees of £100 are payable.
Affiliate member: for those with at least one CILEx level 3 or 4 unit qualification, or who have completed a relevant legal qualification at level 2, or gained at least three years’ work of a predominantly legal nature. Annual subscription fees of £130 are payable.
Assessment costs – these are factored into the fees paid to the University.
