About this course

The Short Course in Business: Digital Innovation is designed to provide managers and business leaders with a sound understanding of Digital Innovation and concepts around ICT changes and how these could impact an organisation.
It explains what innovation within a digital context really means and how it can create more efficiency and drive new collaborative approaches in all areas of work.
To ascertain your level of knowledge and understanding on these topics, at the end of the course there will be a Multiple Choice Test (MCT). To obtain a Certificate of Completion you must pass the MCT to pass the course. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued where 100% attendance has been achieved and no assessment has been taken.

The University is accredited by the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Certification Service.  This means that we provide recognised independent continuous professional development accreditation compatible with global CPD principles.

Delegates who participate in CPD activities are at the advantage of ensuring that their academic and practical qualifications do not become outdated: allowing individuals to continually ‘upskill’ or ‘re-skill’ themselves, regardless of occupation, age or educational level. Our course have CPD certification and therefore carry CPD points.

Certificate of Completion and Certificate of Attendance carries 15 CPD points.

Course Delivery

Delivery: Online live sessions with tutor
Time per session: 6:30pm – 8pm

Class-based, tutor-led training is complemented by PowerPoint slides, videos and interactive exercises to help promote understanding around technology concepts and the impact of these in an organisation.

The topics covered include general IT concepts on IT networking, security, databases, cybersecurity, analytics and data warehouses.  You will also gain invaluable insight about the more complex areas revolving around the implementation of ICT Strategic Plans and how these are developed around overall business strategic objectives.

Meet the tutor

Alan has formed part of the tutoring team for the University degree programmes for the past four years also teaching our BBA degree course as well as MBA. His past experience includes lecturing at the College of Further Education for over 14 years teaching a wide range of professional courses that required ICT or technology based learnings. He was also a tutor at the Bournemouth and Poole College lecturing on a number of topics for two years.
Alan has many years of professional experience in the ICT spectrum responsible for a number of Digital Transformation Programmes around the world including a big multinational bank delivery change across the globe and is currently the CIO (Chief Information Officer) and fully qualified  C-DPO (Certified Data Protection Officer) at the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission. His passion to impart all his technical knowledge in a way that is understood by everyone is his commitment and strength in his teaching techniques.

Aims & Outcomes

  • Gain a better understanding of IT concepts and implementation of these in the organization through a Digital Transformation Programme;
  • Gain a better understanding of your business digital strategy and how it can be used to improve overall business strategies and objectives;
  • Apply Digital Strategies to leverage market competitiveness and allow for easier analytical work to be undertaken utilising Big Data concepts through a Business Intelligence and Management Information Systems implementation;
  • Learn how to store, analyse and protect large amounts of data and ensure your organisation’s digital infrastructures are secure;
  • Understand the concepts of cybersecurity and how to improve protection in an organisation meeting GDPR requirements on data handling;
  • Learn to develop digital transformation strategies fully aligned with and supportive of agreed overall business goals and objectives – ICT should be an enabler to the organisation’s overall objectives;
  • Discuss and understand the key success factors in implementing a digital strategy through a holistic approach – taking into account the impact on people, technology, culture and overcoming resistance to change;
  • Through the use of real life scenarios and in particular referencing the learnings worldwide from the COVID-19 Pandemic, demonstrate how a Digital Organisation is better prepared to deal with the unexpected, and how the implementation of these strategies can lead to a successful ICT infrastructure.
