Modules

The BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing Studies (International Top-Up) is a 1-year programme, delivered by expert teaching staff and health care practitioners.
This programme will advance your knowledge and understanding of contemporary nursing in a global context through lectures, seminars, guided self-study and online work through our Virtual Learning Environment (Canvas). You will also participate in tutorials, workshops and project work.

Professional and Personal Development in Healthcare

The module will focus on reflection and reflexive practice as a strategy for the student’s own development, student’s understanding of the application of clinical reasoning and decision making, and the development of their academic skills in order to practice as a registered nurse.

The Contemporary Adult Nurse in Healthcare

This module introduces students to the context of nursing practice across a range of healthcare settings. Students will learn about contemporary healthcare concepts and a range of common health conditions. Students will be introduced to The Code (NMC, 2018 and GRB, 2021) to gain knowledge and understanding of its importance in guiding the nurse to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care, which is essential when caring in partnership with families and other healthcare professionals. The module will encompass the role of the adult nurse in a modern healthcare environment.

Leadership in Contemporary Adult Nursing

The module examines what is required to be an accountable professional within the healthcare system, policies, organisational structures and role, professional hierarchies, and ethics and values. Theories of leadership and group dynamics and evidence of the emergence of conflict and stress are examined and applied to practice. Communication, feedback and performance management are examined in detail and the module considers both formal and informal approaches to supporting other healthcare workers.

Developing Evidence Based Practice through Research Methods

This module is designed to enable students to critique evidence-based practice and understand the relative merits and limitations of the different types of evidence, which inform practice. This will support to further develop and consolidate their knowledge regarding searching for, appraising, evaluating and applying evidence-based practice to ensure a life-long focus on best care. The module will enable the students to locate and interpret primary source evidence and thereby be enabled to make informed judgements about applying evidence to practice. The module will also enable students to systematically organise and make analytical and objective judgements on the reviewed evidence in their areas of practice.

QAA Global Accreditation

The University is delighted to have achieved global accreditation from the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), the UK’s independent quality body and a global leader in quality assurance for higher education.

“In achieving QAA’s global accreditation, the University has displayed its compatibility with international best practice.”

Vicki Scott, UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) Chief Executive.
