About this programme

This accelerated access programme is designed to assist your successful transition on to a University of Gibraltar undergraduate programme. This pathway programme provides you with the foundation of academic skills and knowledge needed to springboard your academic journey.
Successful completion of this Access course will provide you with the necessary entry requirements to apply for one of the following programmes:
BSc (Hons) Computing and EntrepreneurshipBachelor of Business Administration (Hons)BSc (Hons) Maritime Science with Cadetship programme

Modules

The Access to Higher Education programme offers 3-4 modules:
  1. Fast track Academic English*
  2. Fast track Academic Skills
  3. Speciality modules**
    • Mathematical Physics for Maritime Science OR
    • Mathematics for Business
*Should you have the minimum English Language requirements, you may be able to opt-out of this module.
**Module choice will be dependent on the undergraduate programme you are interested in e.g. BSc in Maritime Science or Bachelor of Business Administration.
The programme will run as an accelerated programme allowing you to successfully transition onto our undergraduate programmes.
Runs for 12 weeks for 6 hrs per week per module, starting in June 2023.

Fast Track Academic English

This module is designed to develop and improve Academic English skills of students whose first language is not English, in order for them to participate in their study programme. This integrated skills course will focus on the 4 language skills, (reading, writing, speaking and listening) in an academic context, along with essential grammar and academic vocabulary required for study at a level 4 programme.

Fast-Track Academic Skills

This module is designed to develop generic and transferable academic skills that underpin the learning development of students prior to embarking on university-level study.

The module aims to help students to gain knowledge and understanding of the academic skills needed to support their study at degree level, enabling them to be confident, independent critical thinkers and reflective learners.

Mathematical Physics

This module is designed to develop necessary skills and knowledge of basic Physics to allow progression onto a related undergraduate degree programme. The module will focus on basic mathematics and interpretation proficiency, followed by introduction to Physics concepts, with a focus on application of physics applicable to maritime navigation and engineering.

Introduction to Business Maths

This modules provides students with an introduction to the basic mathematical concepts that are required to succeed in a business context, particularly in the areas of finance and data analysis. Students will be also be introduced to the functions of Microsoft Excel which will assist them in these areas.

Entry Requirements

Typically, all applicants should have:
  • Minimum two Cs at AS level (24 UCAS points) or international equivalent.
English language requirements:
An overall IELTS test result of 5.5, including a minimum of 5.0 in all sub-tests.
Equivalent awards will be considered (e.g. Pearson’s Test of English, Cambridge English B2 First, Duolingo English Test, City & Guilds International ESOL 8984, or the TOEFL- IBT test of English proficiency).
If you do not meet the requirements, you can join one of our Pre-sessional English courses. Please contact us as each application is considered on a case-by-case basis.
