30th June 2022
In a recent press release from the UK Government’s Department for Education (DfE), announcing a new system designed to attract outstanding international teachers to England, Gibraltar was named as one of the 39 countries whose qualified teachers will have their teaching qualifications recognised, thus making them eligible to apply for ‘Qualified Teacher Status’ (QTS) in England.
Awarded by the Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA), QTS is a legal requirement to teach in many English schools. DfE’s recognition of Gibraltar’s qualified teachers as eligible for QTS confirms that University of Gibraltar PGCE graduates are able to access the same teaching opportunities available to teachers who qualified in England.
