The facility significantly enhances practical maritime education across the institution, directly supporting both the Maritime Academy’s professional courses and the BSc (Hons) Maritime Science, Nautical with Cadetship degree.

Equipped to mirror modern operational conditions, the bridge simulators allow cadets and industry professionals to hone navigation skills, bridge team management, vessel handling, and emergency decision-making across complex, simulated environments.

For degree cadets, this hands-on training directly bridges the gap between academic coursework and their sea-time placements.

Beyond academic instruction, the centre expands the University’s capacity to deliver advanced training locally, further reinforcing Gibraltar’s position as a premier maritime hub.

Professor Catherine Bachleda, Vice-Chancellor and CEO of the University of Gibraltar, stated:

“The opening of the Maritime Simulation Centre is a milestone for our maritime training capabilities. It provides both our degree cadets and working professionals with vital hands-on simulation training alongside their academic and professional development. We are deeply grateful to Peninsula & HTM and Boluda Towage for their generous support, a powerful demonstration of the strong, ongoing collaboration between the University and Gibraltar’s maritime sector.”
