The Parasol Library

The Main Hall honours the Parasol Foundation Trust and its principal benefactress Ruth Parasol, which has been a significant contributor to the University’s educational platform.

The Parasol Library provides University of Gibraltar students with a quiet place for individual study and group work, equipped with desktops (PC and Mac) and a black and white printer. The Parasol Library has copies of all the Core and Recommended Reading List textbooks for all the Programmes, as well as literature on academic skills such as research design and referencing. Many of the Reading List materials are also available as eBooks, which students can access remotely as well as on campus.

The Institutional Repository contains research and other outputs from the University of Gibraltar and its Associate Campuses and associate researchers.  The Repository contains details of published, peer-reviewed journal articles, reviews, book chapters, conference abstracts, posters etc.  Final, peer-reviewed, author preprints are included, along with the full-text Version of Record where publisher permissions allow.

The Gibraltar Biodiversity Portal is a finding aid for Gibraltar-related biodiversity resources, recognising that environmental knowledge is not held in academic articles alone but also in collections, artworks, legislation, social media and much more. It brings together otherwise hard-to-find resources from organisations and researchers, locally and internationally. Developed by the Parasol Library, the Portal shines a light on ‘hidden gems’ and showcases the wealth of biodiversity information on The Rock.

The Gibraltar Repository is a distributed collection of material about Gibraltar, or authored by a Gibraltarian, held in the Libraries of the University’s Associate Campuses. The Gibraltar Libraries Forum is made up of members from those Associate Campuses and others, and together they have developed the online catalogue to the Gibraltar Repository.

The Parasol Library also provides University of Gibraltar students with much more than books! The Library Module on Canvas contains subject-specific study guides, selected readings requested by lecturers, and the Academic Skills Hub (created in conjunction with the University of Gibraltar Language Centre) where you can find help with academic writing, citing and referencing, using AI and more!  Sign in using your UniGib student email and password.
