Graduate Profile | Kellyanne Ignacio | MBA Master of Business Administration

24th February 2022
Kellyanne, one of our Master of Business Administration graduates, spoke to us about her experience studying at Unigib and where she is now.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Gibraltar?

I chose to study at the University of Gibraltar because it has given me the opportunity to complete an MBA award whilst being at home. After completing my Business Management degree in London and the pandemic striking, settling at home has been the best option for me. The University of Gibraltar has proven along my academic year that they are invested in every students success, resulting in our well-deserved graduation. All programmes are tailored to best fit students needs, providing flexibility and adaptability. What I have enjoyed most about having chosen the University of Gibraltar is the healthy relationships and connections I have built with both my lecturers and classmates due to the smaller sizes. This has enabled me to gain further confidence when participating in class, allowed me to seek for help when needed and gave me the motivation to strive throughout the award with the end-goal of obtaining my MBA.

“The University of Gibraltar has been ideal in tailoring their advice to each student depending on their career prospects and their life after their graduation.”

What are you doing now?

After successfully graduating in December 2021, I am now in the process of searching for a job that suits well with the degree and MBA I have obtained across my academic journey. At present, the pandemic has slowed down the employment sector making it harder to seek for an adequate job role that you enjoy and are prepared to undertake. However, I am determined and motivated that soon enough I will secure a job that makes me happy and that will give me the opportunity to demonstrate all the skills and knowledge I have learnt along the way.

Where would you like to see your career go?

Most postgraduates once having obtained a job will need to start from the basics and work the way up within their company and that precisely is my aim. As an individual who likes to strive to success, once I secure a job myself I will make sure to work to the best of my ability to aspire to the highest position in the firm. Since a young age I have always been very intrigued and attracted to entrepreneurship and those individuals who invest in an idea and make it a reality. Who knows, someday I could also see my career shifting towards becoming my own boss or creating my very own brand.

What, if anything, would you have done differently during your time at the University of Gibraltar to help better prepare for your career/ life after graduation?

In my case, I think I made pretty good use of all the facilities, sources and advice I received during my time at the University of Gibraltar, however, if there is one thing I could point out would be that I myself should have began filtering what type of job roles I would like to apply to once I had graduated and what departments/sectors I would see myself working in. This would have facilitated the process of sending my CVs and deciding where and what role it is I want to apply to. Other than that, the University of Gibraltar has been ideal in tailoring their advice to each student depending on their career prospects and their life after their graduation.
