Mental Health Awareness Week 2019 will take place from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 May 2019. The theme for 2019 is Body Image – how we think and feel about our bodies.

Body image issues can affect all of us at any age. This week allows us to considering some of the reasons why our body image can impact the way that we feel.

Talk

So what’s underneath? – A free talk by Mark Montovio.

Mark Montovio works at the Gibraltar Mental Welfare Society and is an experienced counsellor, trainer and supervisor with a particular interest in the relationship between body and mind. He has explored these issues using a variety of media, including photography, sculpture, dance and poetry. His presentations will look at how our relationship with the body can have an impact throughout the Lifespan.

A dance performance by JFDance will conclude the evening followed by an opportunity to network.

Walk

University Step Challenge!

Join us and increase your daily physical activity in a sustainable and enjoyable way. Findings are now highlighting the positive health effects of walking in terms of cardiovascular health, reducing diabetes risk and improving lifestyle factors such as weight and blood pressure. Results also show improved mental health and wellbeing in people undertaking 10,000 steps a day!

Please email info@unigib.edu.gi with your daily step counts. You can use your mobile phones, pedometers or other similar devices to obtain your count. We will be tallying up each of the participants steps for your chance to win!

1st prize – 1 month pass at any of the following;  Ocean Health Club, Atlantic Health Club, Sunborn Infinity Club or Reshape and Rumble!
