On Monday 6th October, the University of Gibraltar welcomed its new PhD students to the 2025–26 academic year, joined by several of our more experienced PhD researchers, for a day centred on connection, collaboration, and creativity.
The morning began with an induction into the PhD Programme, where students were introduced to the key requirements, milestones, and the academic and pastoral support available to guide them throughout their doctoral journey.
In the afternoon, both new and experienced PhD students took part in a collaborative session designed to encourage communication, teamwork, and independent reflection. In groups, they created a research-inspired painting that brought their diverse research areas into a single piece, followed by the creation of individual reflective mood boards expressing their personal research identities and motivations.
The day fostered open communication, creativity, and interdisciplinary collaboration, highlighting the strength and enthusiasm of our growing community of PhD students.
The activities were planned with the support of PhD student representatives Amy Swift and Keith Madeira, whose contributions helped make the event both enriching and enjoyable for their fellow students.
We look forward to another year of collaboration, curiosity, and impactful research.
