We are delighted to announce the results of the 2024 external review of the University of Gibraltar’s PhD programme, conducted by Prof. Jackie Potter, Dean of Innovation at the University of Chester, UK.

The University of Gibraltar is committed to maintaining the highest standards for its flagship PhD programme, which is ensured through biennial reviews by external academic experts. Prof. Potter’s report underscores our programme’s exceptional qualities and highlights our dedication to continuous improvement. She noted the significant growth in active students, and described the research environment as “supportive and inclusive for all research students.”

Prof. Potter also praised our in-house Faculty as well as locally and internationally-based Associate Researchers for their contributions to the programme, including their roles as PhD supervisors. The review also emphasized the success of our annual “Research that Benefits Gibraltar” conference, stating that it has already provided a great platform for research students to disseminate their work to the community.

Additionally, Prof. Potter commended the comprehensive support provided by the Research Office staff, highlighting the balanced and individually tailored provision for students throughout.

Overall, the review reaffirms our commitment to upholding high standards and advancing our PhD programme, reflecting a solid foundation for continued growth and excellence.

“… it is clear the research PhD programme continues to play an important part in the educational portfolio at the University of Gibraltar as well as contributing to research activity and the local and international profile of the University. Student feedback is positive and staff are highly motivated to support their students and the University’s quality and growth agendas for the programme” – Professor Jackie Potter
