The Nursing Simulation Suite was officially opened on International Nurses Day by the Hon. Pat Orfila, Minister for the University, together with representatives from the Kusuma Trust Peter Isola and Michelle Tosso.

This new facility provides a highly realistic, immersive learning environment, featuring six fully equipped bed spaces, simulated oxygen and suction, nurse call buttons, emergency buzzers, and all the clinical equipment necessary to replicate local hospital wards. In addition, the facility includes a treatment room, shower facility, and classrooms, along with dedicated spaces for practising home visits, conducting triage, and delivering sensitive information to patients’ families.

The suite will serve as a critical training ground for healthcare students enrolled in a range of programmes, including the Access to Healthcare course, Diploma in Nursing, BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing, BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing, BSc (Hons) Paramedic Practice, MSc Contemporary Healthcare, and MSc Advanced Healthcare Practitioner. It provides students with a safe environment to practise essential clinical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, building their confidence and preparing them for the real-world challenges they will encounter in their careers.

Professor Catherine Bachleda, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gibraltar, expressed her gratitude to the Kusuma Trust, stating:

“We are deeply grateful to the Kusuma Trust for their continued support and commitment to innovation within the healthcare sector and to the advancement of health education standards. Their generous funding plays a vital role in helping the University of Gibraltar achieve its strategic goals—enabling us to deliver effective learning, teaching facilities, and high-quality resources.”

This partnership with the Kusuma Trust reflects the University’s commitment to providing industry-relevant education and training, while also strengthening the healthcare sector in Gibraltar.

The University of Gibraltar extends its sincere thanks to the Kusuma Trust for their invaluable support, which has not only enriched its healthcare programmes but also paved the way for the development of highly skilled future healthcare professionals.
