The University of Gibraltar was pleased to welcome James Hallwood, Head of Policy and External Affairs at the Council of Deans of Health (CoDH), for a visit to its Europa Point Campus.

The CoDH represents the UK’s university faculties engaged in education and research for nursing, midwifery, and the allied health professions. With 101 member universities and nine associate members, the Council plays a key role in influencing government policy and promoting excellence in healthcare education and research.

As part of the Council’s commitment to engaging with its members, Mr. Hallwood’s visit provided an opportunity to explore areas of best practice and identify ways in which the CoDH can further support the University of Gibraltar. During his time in Gibraltar, he also visited the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA), meeting with Director General Kevin McGee and Director of Nursing Sandra Gracia.

Reflecting on his visit, Mr. Hallwood said:

“It has been a pleasure visiting the University of Gibraltar. The university and staff have a lot to offer the wider Council of Deans of Health membership, with strong examples of innovation and join-up between health and education sectors as well as government. There are some good lessons I will take back to Britain with me.

I look forward to continuing to work closely with Professor Catherine Bachleda and Dr. James Vinales to build on the success of the university’s healthcare courses and address regulatory challenges through engagement with UK-based regulators and the government at Westminster.

Gibraltar is a very special place, and its university reflects that. I am grateful for the chance to have visited and seen so much while here.”

Professor Catherine Bachleda, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gibraltar, added:

“We were absolutely delighted to welcome James to our Europa Point Campus. His visit provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen our relationship with the Council of Deans of Health, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration.”

The University of Gibraltar remains committed to delivering high-quality healthcare education and engaging with key sector bodies to further enhance opportunities for its students and faculty.
