Speaking about the initiative, the University’s Registrar, Krystle Robba said “Earth Hour is a great initiative which joins millions around the world to turn off lights and think about why nature and our planet is so important. I specifically feel it is a powerful initiative which connects so many of us to ‘our’ Earth and nature and how our planet’s gain is everyone’s gain.”
Her Worship the Mayor is also supporting the worldwide movement of Earth Hour and encourages individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour. She said “We should celebrate sustainability and show support towards global movements that will help solve the problem of global warming. We have the choice to make a difference, every effort counts.”
Starting as a symbolic lights out event in Sydney, Earth Hour has become a global “LIGHTS OFF” grassroots initiative which sees hundreds of millions of people from more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide turn off their lights in a global effort to combat climate change.
Get involved by switching off non-essential lights for one hour at 8:30pm this Saturday.
