Mr Alan Pereira

Biography

Alan has been a lecturer since 2017, contributing extensively to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across the School of Business. His teaching spans areas such as Management Information Systems, Emerging Technologies, Cybersecurity, Digital Transformation, and Innovation, where he integrates academic theory with real-world application.

Prior to his university role, Alan accumulated over 14 years of lecturing experience at the College of Further Education, delivering a broad range of professional and vocational programmes with a strong emphasis on ICT and technology-enabled learning. He also lectured at Bournemouth and Poole College, where he delivered modules across various technical and business disciplines.

Alongside his academic career, Alan has extensive industry experience across the ICT and financial services sectors. He has led and contributed to major digital transformation initiatives internationally and globally, including large-scale technology change programmes within multinational banking environments. His work bridges the gap between technology, business strategy, and regulatory compliance.

Alan currently serves as Chief Information Officer at the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC), where he is responsible for technology strategy, cybersecurity, data governance, data protection and digital innovation within the regulator. He is also a fully qualified Certified Data Protection Officer and plays a key role in shaping regulatory expectations in areas such as cybersecurity resilience, digital assets, and emerging technologies. His contributions include the development of regulatory frameworks, guidance, and supervisory approaches aligned with international standards, including those of the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority.

Alan brings a practitioner-led approach to teaching, drawing on his direct experience in regulation, cybersecurity, and enterprise technology. He is particularly focused on preparing students for the evolving digital landscape, including areas such as artificial intelligence, distributed ledger technology, and next-generation cybersecurity including the integration of these as part of Management Information Systems.
