Biography

Selena has a long nursing career spanning over 30 years both in Gibraltar and the UK. She completed her Diploma in Healthcare Studies/RN at the Leeds University in 1996. After working in Kings College Hospital, London where she obtained her clinical teaching qualification (ENB 998), she then transferred to Manchester and completed her BSc (Hons) Community Health/Specialist Practitioner Programme (District Nursing) at the University of Manchester in 2000. She worked for East Cheshire NHS Trust as Evening and Night District Nursing Service Coordinator for the Trust. In 2003 she returned to Gibraltar and began working for Cancer Relief as Day Centre Nurse running the Lady Williams Centre. She pursued her interest in Palliative Care and gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care from Dundee University and worked for the GHA as Palliative Care Clinical Nurse. She has also worked within the GHA District Nursing Service for 4 years before transferring back to her role as Palliative Care CNS.
Throughout her career Selena has also been an advocate for the inclusion of complementary therapies into mainstream healthcare with the aim of delivering person centred, holistic, care. She has Diplomas in Clinical Aromatherapy, Holistic Massage with a special focus on cancer care, having worked as Complementary Therapist for Cancer Relief Gibraltar. Selena joined the Lecturing team at the School of Health Sciences in August 2023 on a part-time basis and is keen to continue combine her clinical practice and skills with her lecturing role.
