About this course

The University of Gibraltar in collaboration with the Gibraltar Insurance Institute (GII) are offering the ‘Fast Track’ CII Diploma in Insurance (DIP CII) programme, which will be delivered at the University of Gibraltar, subject to adequate interest received.

This is a Fast-Track programme developed to provide students with a quicker route to achieve the Diploma in Insurance qualification. While the University delivers the structured training sessions, candidates must enrol directly with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) to become a CII member (recommended to benefit from member rates) obtain course materials and examination vouchers.

Students will have the opportunity to sit the 1 or 2 of the Compulsory Diploma units within a few months, enabling them to progress in completing their qualification whilst being supported throughout their studies by a comprehensive package.

The Course includes:

  • 4 x block days of face-to-face training sessions per unit (M05 Insurance Law or M92
  • Insurance Business and Finance)
  • Taught by a CII accredited tutor, locally in Gibraltar
  • Access to student discussion forums to learn with peers, run by tutor
  • Access to a tutor to provide ongoing technical support and guidance

Students who already hold some of the Diploma units can join the programme to progress their studies by just choosing a single unit, if that is all they need.

Course Delivery

To achieve the CII Diploma in Insurance (DIP CII) qualification, you must obtain 120 CII credits. The is an RQF Level 4 qualification, with each unit requiring 80-120 recommended study hours.

Exams

Bleak House serves as the CII examination centre for Gibraltar, allowing candidates to book their own exam date and time online directly with the CII. This flexible approach enables candidates to schedule their exams around their commitments and readiness, rather than adhering to a fixed date as in previous years.

Upon purchasing a Study Book from the CII, candidates will receive an exam voucher, which can be redeemed for an exam date of their choice.

We are able to provide guidance to assist students with this process if required.

  • Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) Compliance: The IDD requires 15 hours of CPD annually, ensuring staff meet regulatory expectations for conduct, knowledge, and competency. The Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (GFSC) recognises the CII Certificate as a relevant qualification under its June 2018 paper on Training and Competency, with the Diploma serving as the natural progression from the Certificate.
  • Face-to-face training: Fully supported in-person sessions, increasing staff confidence and improving exam success rates.

Entry profile

This programme is open to anyone, irrespective of educational background or experience. It is
suitable for a diverse range of people, including:

  • There are no entry requirements. However, to assist to meet the demands of study at Level 4 undergraduate first year level) it is recommended that applicants complete the CII Level 3 Certificate in Insurance (CERT CII) and/or foundational academic study (e.g. GCSEs) prior to studying DIP CII.
  • We recommend the prior study of IF1 Insurance, legal and regulatory, as this covers the workings of the market, including the legal and regulatory framework and the essentials and principles of insurance practice.
