About this course

The Professional Skills Course (PSC) is delivered in accordance with the requirements of the Supreme Court (Amendment) Act 2015. Under this legislation, anyone wishing to be admitted and enrolled as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of Gibraltar and who has completed the Solicitors’ Legal Practice Course (LPC) or been called to the Bar in England and Wales must complete three mandatory components. The PSC is one of the two academic components of this statutory requirement.

The University of Law is the awarding body for the Professional Skills Course. The PSC is delivered by tutors from the University of Law (ULaw), a leading private university in the United Kingdom specialising in legal education and professional development. ULaw tutors are all qualified solicitors or barristers who regularly train paralegals, apprentices, trainee lawyers, and practising professionals.

Course Delivery

The Professional Skills Course (PSC) comprises three core units.
Each unit will be delivered online from 9:00am to approximately 5:30pm on the dates indicated below.

Financial and Business Skills
Wednesday 25th – Friday 27th February 2026

This unit includes a 1 hour 30 minute in-person examination, prescribed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Passing this assessment is mandatory to complete the unit.

Client Care and Professional Standards:

Monday 2nd  March – Tuesday 3rd March 2026

Advocacy and Communication Skills:

Wednesday 4th March – Friday 6th March 2026

Who is the course for?

The Professional Skills Course is intended for law graduates who wish to practise law in Gibraltar and have either:

  • Been called to the Bar in England and Wales, or
  • Completed the Solicitors’ Legal Practice Course (LPC).

Important: If you have not been called to the Bar in England and Wales or completed the LPC, please contact the Legal Services Regulatory Authority (LSRA) at info@lsra.gi  before commencing the PSC. This will clarify the potential impact on your eligibility and progression.

What would be the result of passing this course?

Students who successfully complete this course will receive a Professional Skills Course Letter of Completion issued by the University of Law.

The course is independently recognised by the Gibraltar Law Council.  The University of Law and University of Gibraltar are academic institutions and, as such, the provider of the course and examinations and is not involved in determining who is eligible to practise law in Gibraltar.

Entry profile

To be eligible for this course, candidates should hold a Law degree or a legal qualification. If the student wishes to use the core modules as part of their application for admission as a solicitor in England and Wales, they must ensure that they have satisfied the SRA requirements for undertaking the PSC.

If English is not your first language, you will need to provide proof of competence in English which is acceptable to the University.

Fees

The course fee for academic year 2025/2026 is £2,045.00.

This includes initial registration fees, as well as course materials and tuition.
