About this course

This is a highly interactive, collaborative approach to learning with a forward thinking focus. You will acquire a foundation in today’s essential leadership requirements. You will enhance your knowledge through thought and discussion, experience in developing your skills in management and you will be able to apply different leadership skills to your organisation.
Topics include an introduction to the different types of leadership, an overview of motivation and motivating the millennial generation, building an effective team through excellent delegation and empowerment techniques, an introduction to managing change and leading different cultures, and managing performance through giving valuable feedback to your employees
This course includes simulations (role-plays) to reinforce learning and a Multiple Choice Test will be sat by all participants to assess knowledge gained.

The University is accredited by the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Certification Service.  This means that we provide recognised independent continuous professional development accreditation compatible with global CPD principles.

Delegates who participate in CPD activities are at the advantage of ensuring that their academic and practical qualifications do not become outdated: allowing individuals to continually ‘upskill’ or ‘re-skill’ themselves, regardless of occupation, age or educational level. Our course have CPD certification and therefore carry CPD points.

Certificate of attendance will carry 21 CPD points.

Day 1: Leadership, Motivation & Team
  • Define the roles, responsibilities, qualities and skills of an effective leader
  • State the differences between managing & leading
  • Apply the principles of ‘action-centred leadership’
  • Identify how a range of leadership styles can be effective in different situations
  • Identify the 5 principles and responsibilities of a leader
  • Identify what factors motivate and de-motivate employees
  • Describe the reasons why employees are motivated by different things
  • State how leaders can influence motivation levels
  • Motivate the Millennial employee
  • Define the characteristics of effective teams
  • Describe the stages of team development
  • Define the importance and relevance of effective teamwork
Day 2: Delegation, Empowerment & Change
  • Identify how to delegate and overcome the barriers to delegation
  • Highlight the signs of poor delegation
  • Identify The right tasks to delegate to the right people
  • Identify what empowerment is and how to create it within your team
  • Describe common responses to change
  • Assess and understand the reasons for change
  • Working effectively with others who resist change
  • Taking positive action to make change successful, both individually and with others
Day 3: Culture, Performance & Feedback
  • Define what culture is and what we currently know about different cultures
  • Identify Stereotypes in our individual understanding of our colleagues
  • Utilise three styles of communication to deal with cultural differences
  • Build cultural bridges in the workplace
  • Identify what constitutes bullying & harassment in the workplace
  • Plan and prepare thoroughly for performance planning and reviews
  • Conduct performance review conversations effectively
  • Develop measurable objectives to focus on performance contribution
  • Provide effective feedback
This three-day management course is highly interactive and aimed at new or aspiring managers. You will enhance your knowledge through thought and discussion, experience in developing your skills in management and you will be able to apply different leadership skills to your organisation.

Entry profile

This course is suitable for Line Managers – New to the role or with no formal training.

Fees

Course Fee: £780 for Academic Year 2022/2023
This fee includes registration and tuition fees as well as lunch at the Bistro Point restaurant.
The University cannot guarantee places on this course which may be limited due to class size and in order to ensure quality of teaching. The course will be delivered subject to minimum numbers being met.
