About this course

The STCW Proficiency in Maritime Security Awareness course is set up to offer crew on board merchant ships, who are not assigned security duties, with the essential awareness needed. This course ensures that delegates will leave with the knowledge, understanding and proficiency requirements that are set out in the STCW code. This is mandatory training that must be done by all seafarers whose role requires them to comply with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code.
This is a half day course and will cover the following:
  • The importance of ship security and the roles involved in its provision
  • The requirements and measures to maintain ship security
  • How to report a security threat
The course will include videos, group discussion and trainer led presentations

Certification

Delegates will be required to successfully complete a short exam paper to test their understanding then a Certificate of Proficiency in Security Awareness; Regulation VI/6, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/6, paragraphs 4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended will be issued.
