Student Perspective | Rachelle Hicks | Master in Marine Science & Climate Change

MSc Marine Science & Climate Change
12th October 2022

What brought you to the University of Gibraltar?

After taking a few years off of higher academia, I decided to explore my options worldwide (being someone from the USA), the unique location and diversity that Gibraltar has to offer stuck out to me and is truly one of a kind, especially if you’re a lover of marine flora and fauna. I was also very drawn to the program composed of marine science and climate change, which is not common in other master’s programs.

How has your experience of the programme and the university been so far?

Currently 4 weeks into the program and I could not be more ecstatic and grateful to be surrounded by supportive peers and educators. Definitely going to be an intense year, but worth it! I do believe that. Lots of knowledge, experiences and memories will be acquired.

How have you found student life at the University of Gibraltar?

The university is full of the most out-going friendly faces. The SEO team is always working on events for everyone to enjoy and get together from dolphin cruises to bar crawls and so much more.

“If you’re looking for an interesting, supportive university with a diverse academia, then look no further. You won’t regret it.”

– Rachelle Hicks

What do you expect to do once you graduate?

It’s hard to say because you never know what opportunities might arise. I hope to either further my education and work towards a PhD or work in an area of conservation and protection of the marine environment.
