PhD Researcher Samantha Slisarenko has recently presented her research at an international workshop showcasing the wider applications of her research methodology in the field. This was presented at the UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum Invasive Species Webinar. This is what Samantha had to say about her experience.
“I am thrilled to share my recent experience presenting at an international workshop as a PhD researcher, here I had the privilege of showcasing the wider applications of my research methodology in the field at the UK Overseas Territories Conservation Forum Invasive Species Webinar (7th March 2023).
Delivering on a component of my methodology was a truly rewarding experience. It allowed me to demonstrate the versatility of my research methods and how they can be applied in different contexts to address various research questions and conservation goals.
One of the most exciting aspects of this experience was the opportunity to engage with other stakeholders in my field, this in turn allowed me to practice and improve my scientific communication skills beyond the academic realm. Through my presentation, I was able to develop insights into how my research methodology could contribute to the larger body of knowledge and advance the field further.”

Comments from Head of School

We are delighted the UKOTCF invited Sam to deliver a conference presentation on eDNA approaches. The opportunity for a PhD student to deliver a presentation to an international audience is key to one’s development ‘in honing their skills’ as a researcher – and Sam has delivered within 6 months of starting a PhD!

We thank Caroline Wensik & Dr Mike Pienkowski (UKOTCF) for affording Sam this invaluable opportunity.
