Alison spoke to our School of Business students about building a digital start-up, and provided an insight to her key learnings for success.

Last week Alison Cressey, experienced executive director and non-executive with business expertise from multibillion dollar NASDAQ and New York Stock exchange listed companies including Disney, Warner Bros. and Activision, spoke to our School of Business students about building a digital start-up.


Students across our BBA, MBA and MA in Leadership and Management programmes heard from Alison about building a digital start-up, as well as her key learnings for success:
  • Market assessment and risk (3 top traps not to fall in to);
  • Brand: what is a brand (4 ways to focus on the right sort of development);
  • Marketing and strategy (questions it should answer, plan; what it should include);
  • Building high performance teams (5 top behaviours);
  • Pitching to investors (summary of the vital areas).
Alison currently sits on the board at Falmouth University and is an equality, diversity and MBA adviser at Lancaster University. She has coached and mentored the head of Falmouth’s award-winning Launchpad entrepreneurship program and is an advisor to Launchpad’s start-up companies, as well as being an occasional lecturer for their MA programme.
