What brought you to the University of Gibraltar?

Coming from Morocco with a master’s degree in “Finance and Auditing”, and a PhD in “Financial Crime Prevention”, I decided to embark on the MBA journey within the University of Gibraltar given the flexibility I needed as a full-time professional and after being promoted to a Fraud and Compliance Manager. In addition, I have several friends that have successfully completed programs at University of Gibraltar, all with great experiences.

How has your experience of the programme and the university been so far?

I embarked on the MBA journey with a master’s degree in “Finance and Auditing”, and a PhD in “Financial Crime Prevention” from the National School of Business and Management in Morocco, in which I am an assistant professor and lecturer, as well as holding a full-time job in Gibraltar as a Fraud and Compliance manager. However, juggling personal and professional life with MBA life did not detract from my MBA experience; in fact, it made it richer and forced me to be more efficient with my time. The MBA has been a constant learning experience and hugely helped my leadership skills. In addition, University staff are extremely generous with their time to provide support to students, teach and give their perspective on a new business idea. A great big “thank you” to the administrative staff, lecturers, head of business school, vice chancellor, chancellor and to everyone in between for genuinely taking care of the progress and development of the students who have all been given an opportunity to succeed.

How have you found student life at the University of Gibraltar?

With more than 20 MBA cohorts in almost every walk of life, including insurance, nursing, banking, public service, and maritime, these backgrounds provide a tremendous wealth of knowledge and the ability to learn from other professionals around the world, with different professional backgrounds and experiences enriched the MBA experience and that should not be passed up. Additionally, the university provides numerous opportunities for internships and networking at world renowned companies in a variety of industries. Taking on a leadership position, teaching, learning languages, getting deeply involved in academic research, networking, and traveling the world, I found a way to make it all work and the reward is that I am the first Moroccan student embarking the MBA journey within the University of Gibraltar, and I would be proud to one day call myself an alumnus of this University.

What will you do after you graduate?

Obtaining my MBA is a significant step forward in my career as a business professional. My inner determination to accomplish this goal I set for myself at a young age kept me going. Continuing to develop the skills and knowledge I acquired throughout my MBA studies will help me stay up to date with the best practices in business. I also have ambitious career goals and I know earning my MBA would be an asset to help push me forward in the future. In addition, as I already have a PhD in Financial Crime Prevention, I would like to apply for a second PhD within the university of Gibraltar. The sacrifice is short-term, the knowledge I gained is forever and since time will pass, why not spend some of it to make small progress toward a big goal?

What would you say to someone interested in studying at the University of Gibraltar?

I would recommend the MBA program to anyone in a senior management position or in a decision-making role, as you will learn how to identify areas of special interest when preparing to advance in your career in order to get maximum benefit from the program. A program which provides a fair amount of knowledge about business case studies all of which can be useful. In addition to studying this program and earning the required grades, you will develop a wide base of professional and interpersonal skills that you can then take forward into your workplace.
