Last week, we hosted an insightful community lecture by Dr Joey Britto, Research Fellow at our University, titled “The Most Difficult Things to Teach Young Children in the 21st Century.”

Dr Britto provided a comprehensive overview of the challenges educators face when teaching children in schools, drawing from his extensive professional and personal experience over the past 40-plus years in the realm of education in Gibraltar. He highlighted key elements that are particularly difficult for students to learn, including managing their emotions, developing social skills, and maintaining focus and attention. The talk also covered a range of academic subjects, from Reading and Mathematics to Spanish, concluding with discussions on resilience and coping, as well as moral and social concepts influenced by both home and school environments. Dr Britto concluded with a reflection on how the classroom paradigm has evolved over time, providing valuable insights for educators and parents alike.
