Heart health and Innovation: Introducing Gibraltar’s new Cardiac Catheter Lab
This talk aims to educate the public about the development of the new Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab) in Gibraltar, a vital step forward in local healthcare. The presentation will highlight the purpose and capabilities of the Cath lab, its role in diagnosing and treating heart conditions, and the life-saving procedures it offers.
The audience will gain an insight into how the state of the art facility brings advanced cardiac care home, reducing the need for travel and improving emergency response times. We will discuss the signs and symptoms of heart disease, the importance of early intervention, and how the Cath Lab works in conjunction with preventative care to support heart health in the community.
Kaydan Byrne, Cath Lab Charge Nurse
I completed my undergraduate Adult Nursing degree here in Gibraltar at the GHA affiliated with Kingston University. Thereafter, I moved over to Liverpool where I completed an MSc in Nursing and worked in a Cath Lab at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital which served for 2.8 million people and was an active PPCI service. During my time there I obtained skills in assisting in complex PCI, interventional procedures as well as Structural, Pacing and Electrophysiology, demonstrating proficiency in patient assessment, procedural assistance and post procedure care.
Now back here in Gibraltar, I am excited to have been given the opportunity to help lead and develop the new Cardiac Cath lab service as the Cath lab Charge Nurse, bringing my expertise to deliver a safe, high quality Cath lab to our community and ultimately repatriate such an essential service back to the people of Gibraltar.
