As part of the day’s activities, the Academy led an interactive engineering challenge, where participants worked in groups to design and build a cost-effective vessel capable of carrying cargo. Using simple materials and basic engineering principles, the groups tested their ideas, adapted their designs, and learned how efficiency and stability play a key role in maritime operations.

The session combined hands-on learning with creativity and teamwork, offering an engaging introduction to engineering in a maritime context. Laughter and enthusiasm filled the room as groups experimented with their models, highlighting the event’s focus on making STEM both accessible and enjoyable.

The Gibraltar Maritime Academy said it was pleased to support an initiative that inspires young people, particularly girl to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and maritime careers. It was fantastic to see so many engaged and there were several budding young engineering officers definitely in the making.
