On 23rd April, Dr Louise Tilbury delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled “Board Dynamics and the Diverse Board,” which highlighted the complexities of board diversity and its impact on decision-making. Her research revealed that while increasing women’s representation on boards is vital, it also introduces dynamics that can affect board operations.
Through a study of three state-owned boards, Dr Tilbury highlighted how gender dynamics can create status barriers, limiting women’s contributions. She emphasised the importance of the Chair’s leadership in fostering inclusivity and ensuring all voices are heard. Her insights call for a deeper understanding of how diversity functions in the boardroom and the leadership practices required to unlock its full potential.
