Doctoral researchers take centre stage at joint UoG-NTU research conference

This conference stemmed from an ongoing collaboration between our University and NTU which also extends to other aspects of our doctoral programmes, such as lectures and workshops for students. The free, one-day virtual event brought together doctoral candidates from both universities to present and discuss their research across a variety of fields.

Designed to foster collaboration, interdisciplinary dialogue and knowledge exchange, the conference featured four themed presentation sessions, online poster displays, and dedicated opportunities for questions and discussion. A total of sixteen PhD candidates each delivered a concise 10-minute presentation, aimed at making their work accessible to peers from different disciplines, with emphasis placed on the broader relevance and potential impact of their research.

The programme included presentations on topics ranging from marine conservation and consumer behaviour to social interactions and education. An interactive online poster element was hosted on a dedicated Padlet, where attendees were able to review posters during breaks. The platform also enabled doctoral researchers from both our University and NTU to share information about themselves, including research interests and professional or social media links, as well as connect directly with one another during the conference and beyond.

The event aimed to strengthen doctoral researchers’ communication skills and encourage networking across academic boundaries. The high quality of the presentations delivered by doctoral researchers from both institutions was evident throughout the day, with students demonstrating clarity, confidence and an impressive ability to communicate complex ideas to an interdisciplinary audience.
